First day of my natural farming - Preparation for Cover Crop
Greetings! What a day! I along with my friends who are already into natural farming have decided to organize as a group to spread the awareness about natural farming!
But we should follow the natural farming methods in our own lands, before preaching someone, right.
That's exactly I have decided to do right now with guidance from other experienced people.
For last one month, we were busy making preparations for building goshala (cow sheds), Paddy storage room and rooms for staff.
Since my land has been farmed using non natural methods for past 10 years, I have decided to start giving the land some fertility using cover crops!
In India, there is a new method called PMDS., stands for Pre-monsoon dry sowing. Using this method, 2 months before the main crop., variety of pulses, grains and leafy vegetables are sowed into land. Either we water them lightly or wait for monsoon to help with germination!
After 2 months., cover crop will be undercut or rolled into land and let it rot into soil. This method would help to provide major and minor nutrients to the land.
This would make the soil fertile naturally without adding any chemical based fertilizers!
The following main crop would tremendously benefit from the fertility added by that cover crop.
As part of this preparation., today we have prepared the beejamrutham., a natural liquid made with Desi cow urine (gomuthram), cow dung (gomayam), few grams of lime and few grams of pure untouched soil (puttamannu).
After mixing all the above ingredients., let the solution ferment for 24 hours., this solution would help to remove any pests on the seeds that we would use to sow!
I along with my friend have prepared the beejamrutham in our farm house and will wait for 24 hours to use this solution to cleanse the seeds that we are going to sow as cover crop!
I am excited to write., what happens next!
Go natural farming!
Thanks
